Ensuring Water Regulation Compliance
A double-walled WWHRS provides essential protection against contamination, ensuring that wastewater heat recovery occurs without compromising the quality of Wholesome (potable) water in buildings.
Once shower wastewater enters the WWHRS, it becomes Fluid Category 5 (highest risk), by virtue of the fact it’s connected to the soil pipe. This potentially exposes the WWHRS to harmful pathogens and contaminants.
To address this risk, only a double wall system provides the necessary barrier to these pathogens. This ensures compliance UK Regulation 4.
UK Regulation 4 of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations1999 (for England and Wales) is the regulation that all products connected to the UK water supply must comply with.
Installing a compliant WWHRS system isn’t just about meeting legal requirements. It’s about:
- Protecting public health by preventing contamination.
- Ensuring safety in the water systems we install in homes and buildings.
In water safety, prevention is key. By choosing double-walled WWHRS, you ensure a safe, compliant, and efficient water system for your building.
How Showersave WWHRS Systems Address Compliance
Showersave WWHRS units are built with a double walled Fluid Category 5 backflow prevention device in accordance BS EN 1717 (Protection against pollution of Wholesome (potable) water in water installations and general requirements of devices to prevention pollution by backflow).
Third-Party Testing and Certification
- Showersave products undergo rigorous testing with KIWA UK Regulation 4 Product Approval Scheme (KUKreg4), verifying compliance with UK water supply regulations.
- Organisations: WRAS approval is optional. Showersave complies with it to ensure their WWHRS systems meet all water safety standards.
While single-walled WWHRS units are available, they often require additional installation components and plumbing for safe operation. This adds costs, increases maintenance needs and introduces a greater risk of failure and non-compliance with Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999.
Showersave’s double-walled systems, on the other hand, address Fluid Category 5 (highest risk) requirements and are UK Reg 4 certified by KIWA Watertec. They are engineered and manufactured to provide the highest level of safety and efficiency ensuring compliance without these installation additional burdens.
